3. Web Art "POINTLESS INTERACTIVELESS COWMOVIE"

http://www.artun.ee/homepages/tiia/cow/cow1.html
Synopsis
I wanted to join something trivial, simple, even rural with high-tech
environment. You watch the cows walking down the road. We are sitting in

cars and waiting for them as they pass along road.
Maybe this is a kind of metaphor of internet and internet video as well:
it (like cars) needs speed, but slow and old-fashioned cows are all the
way along the road, it means that slow and old wire systems are embracing

the globe and internet is really working in cow speed, however packages
of data are flying with the speed of light. This video is a metaphor to
cow-speed of the Internet.

1. “I am skinhead”

is haunting Europe – the Spectre of Digital Art. Gallery owners and museum managers cannot do business with an art that is immaterial. And now, via trials and tribulations, this art is seeking a place also in the “newly independent” states.Eastern Europe contracted an acute infection of digital and electronic art at the time of Perestroika. Sure, pioneers of video had been around also before. Liberation resulted in an explosive urge to travel. We got out of the corner! For decades, we had been dreaming of that. A couple of more years passed, and the Internet quenched our thirst for information. The World contracted, and the meaning of travelling underwent a transformation. You can be present without leaving your present location. You can send your works to an exhibition without leaving your table, ignoring curators and institutions. This came as a complete surprise, and not only to the overbearing art managers in Eastern Europe. After having overthrown realist academicians, they found themselves in the shoes of the latter and acting in the manner reminiscent of that of their predecessors. The situation was new also in the West, since we can talk about the net.art no earlier than from mid-90ies.Games of hierarchy are attributable to the corner as well as to the centre. It is the belief that a victory scored in such games leads to a global victory. Our geniuses remain geniuses just as long as we keep presenting them as such.Occasionally, hierarchies are constructed by describing the situation with notions such as the era of breakdown of hierarchies, a new fluid space, the comedown of geographic localisation, the Internetization of the world of art, the opposition of metropolises and periphery. That is to say, there is a totally “new situation” begging for “guidance” without delay. As we may see the games go on. Every now and then we are being delicately included in the game, being picked out - simply because others have had it enough and there is a need for new blood. Actually, when we drop by at one event or another we come to realise that, to a certain extent, nobody is really interested in the loony hierarchy-ideas. The wine of vernissages makes equal.Digital art is just perfect for bringing down established structures. However, it itself has become a part of the establishment. Not that much in Estonia where one cannot live on teaching digital art alone and digital art products can be numbered on one hand. Elsewhere, digital art is incorporated in the state art policy, which may have given rise to the “poor” and “worthless” media art as a counter reaction. Why Art in the Corner? Since we know what is happening in other places, it is ours to upgrade the local environment. Regardless of how close we stand to Europe politically, the well-being of each and everyone depends on how those with more power interpret European mentality locally. This festival wants to come down to earth, which, given the current budget, is no problem at all. No sense to overdo, to organise an all-state and all-city event - business sponsors would love it! - because the given field is the realm of experts and those interested. This is a gathering of a sect. That art can trigger outrageous transformations in society, that naïve religion was buried together with that former state of ours where reality was just an experiment and we were but guinea-pigs.The Art in the Corner, and the abandonment of the hierarchy-focused worldview, means specialisation, recognition of each other and of the fact that art has always been standing in the corner and on the sidelines in order to be able to take a better look at the World.

Digitaalkunst sobib etableerunud struktuuride lammutamiseks. Miks nurgakunst? See on sekti kokkusaamine.
